Sentence Imitation

Sentence Imitation

To avoid the monotony of the traditional subject-verb sentence pattern, writers need some tools, some pen strokes to increase reader involvement and to hold interest.

Sentence Imitation

Imitation is an effective scaffolding strategy for writers.  We can craft powerful sentences through imitation of structures and patterns.  By studying the shape of the text, writers access different ways to put language together.  Imitation also encourages writers to take risks with language.  These models encourage experimentation with new rhetorical strategies. Eleven sentences offer practice with syntax patterns, and twenty-five poems and ten books provide additional models for successful imitation.
