Writing Under the Influence of Inquiry

Idea #5

This is part five in a seven-part series of ideas intended to nurture critical, creative, and curious thinking while also supporting composition development.  With these ideas, writers of all ages can develop understandings about texts and their characteristics, the writing process, and what it means to be a writer.

Consider using the book as a portfolio: My Year in Science, My Year in Social Studies, or even My Second Grade Yearbook, etc.  The student can draw a page and write about memorable lessons from that subject area or students can capture their academic experiences and achievements from the year.  You can even use it as a summative assessment in any subject, turning it into a collection of illustrated I Can . . . statements.
